Combat Kempo Australia was formed in 1994 under the direction of Sensei Steve McHugh, the late Sensei Tom Slaven's first graded black belt instructor. with the intention of concentrating on practical self defense technique using many of the training methods originally taught in the late sixties and early seventies at Sensei Slaven's Sydney Kempo-Karate clubs. The focus of Combat Kempo Australia is to practice a more basic style of training and to specialize in combat tactics that are up to date with the current needs of street effective self-defense. These Kempo fighting techniques are streamlined to ensure that the most useful and street effective tactics are emphasized. Combat Kempo Australia has also embraced the AMOK! Knife System as a vital addition to their arsenal of technique under the guidance of the systems creator Professor Tom Sotis. We are proud to be a part of the "Sotis brotherhood of Knifefighters" and are dedicated to upholding the bladed warrior traditions of the Filipino martial culture.
